Teach An Old Dog New Tricks
July 29, 2008I have found the saying, “You can’t teach an old dog new tricks” entirely untruthful, and let me explain why. I have a yellow lab, who’s about 14 years old. He’s actually getting a bit sick, and has some near death experiences soon, HOWEVER…that being said, he has recently learned to open our sliding glass door with his nose. This disproves that theory of not being capable of teaching an old dog new tricks.
Here’s my other question, 2 out of 3, can you teach a new dog OLD tricks? Sure, but it takes a while. For instance, when you get a puppy, making him sit is a trick you have to teach him. So why’s it work out that you can teach a new dog old tricks, but not an old dog new tricks? Somebody lost f*ckin’ ground here.
And 3rd of all, what about people? Can you teach old people new tricks? Of course, because there are grandparents who are insanely tech savvy. So it all depends on whether or not your mind is CAPABLE of handling the information you’re receiving or not. Age IS merely a number. And same goes with babies, you can teach new babies old tricks.
In fact, just in this past week, I’ve taught my dog how to roll over, catch a biscuit off his nose, and rob a bank. And, once, all three at the same time. THAT was awesome. So with all this being said, I think the saying should be, “You can’t teach a new teen old tricks”….because they don’t listen and can’t absorb SH*T.
