Unpatriotic

Don’t you find it odd that whoever you DON’T vote for makes you unpatriotic? I just saw an article that said, “If you don’t vote for Obama, then you are unpatriotic”, yet I’ve seen people that have said the same with McCain and Palin. And not only are you unpatriotic if you don’t vote for Palin, but anti-god too, so they get you from BOTH angles. With all the guilt tripping they put on people, it’s no surprise that it makes people NOT want to vote. Being told they HAVE to do something makes people NOT want to do it. Kids have to go to school, therefore they don’t want to. So, this is the first year I’ll be registered to vote, being that I’m 19, and you know what? I’m not going to.

And so what if you’re viewed as unpatriotic, hey, with the war in Iraq and all the deaths of innocent soldiers, do you really wanna be grouped with all the assholes who consider themselves patriotic? Don’t get me wrong, I like America…kinda…but I don’t want to look like I wanted a war, because I didn’t. I’m not unpatriotic, I’m realistic. And how patriotic can one be when they realize we stole our land from good people like the Indians? Was THAT patriotic? Here’s the definition of the word:

Patriotic:Inspired by patriotism; actuated by love of one’s country; zealously and unselfishly devoted to the service of one’s country; as, a patriotic statesman, vigilance.

That’s the definition. You know what else that’s called? Being religious. Being devoted to God is the same as being patriotic, and everyone says God founded this country, so the two must be related and go hand in hand. Being an atheist, it must only be natural that I’d be unpatriotic. But I don’t consider myself unpatriotic, I consider myself an American capable of critical thinking. I know what would be better for our country and I’d like to see that those things happen…but government officials and religious officials don’t want people capable of critical thinking, they want servants. People who will listen to everything they say, they want followers.

THEY WANT VOTERS.

Well I’ll be staying home on election day. Maybe if, like college, people hadn’t made such a big deal about it when I was growing up, I’d have a god damned interest, but no. They couldn’t not explain it to me.

That’d be unpatriotic.
