Cut The Cord
Today, I cut the cord between myself and my parents.
My father got drunk a couple of months ago at my house, then after we kicked him out, he kept calling saying how he doesn’t understand what went wrong, and boom, that cord was cut. My step-father, mere months after that, revealed something that should not have been revealed (the entire thing WAS my fault) and boom, that cord was cut. Both men I have not told anything personal about myself to them since, my entire personal life (IE social or romantic or otherwise) are off limits to them. Today…
I cut the one from my mother.
See, I have a f*cked up relationship with public transportation. So when my mother tells me today that they’re making me take the light rail to where I needed to get to, that cord was cut instantly. Every parent assumes that their kid is a free loader, ESPECIALLY if the kid is smart. They didn’t know what I thought about daily. Truth is, I had been seriously thinking about taking public transportation lately and was really about to start doing it on my own. But because they pushed the idea once again, as they had before, they didn’t accomplish what they set out to, which was to make me more “independent” (I hate that f*ckin’ word), no, on the contrary, what they DID was turn me into even MORE of a hermit.
So right now, I’m basically familyless, but that’s okay, because I’m good that way. I can do everything-anything on my own terms without any of their crap getting in the way. See parents are like politicians. They both have giant smiles on their faces, and tell huge lies in order to get people to believe them.
I don’t know why they don’t see it hasn’t caught on yet.
Probably because both parties (parents and politicians) are full of crap and don’t really care about you.
