Thin Equals Misleading

Posted in Uncategorized on January 15, 2009 by vandelayinc

I was reading a book the other day (for those of who don’t know me too well, I read a lot of study books) and in it, it was discussing how teenage girls always have weight issues, and said that, “Thin equals pretty.”

No, this is a common misconception on SO many levels.

First of all, thin DOES NOT equal pretty. Okay sure, maybe on some vain, narcissistic, superficial level it does. But in the real world-you know, the one nobody ever bothers to visit-it doesn’t. What it SHOULD say is, “Thin equals HEALTHY.” I always hate saying things to girls about how they look because I am so absolutely petrified that they will take, “Exercise is good for you” as “YOU’RE FUCKING FAT” which is NOT what I intended to say at all! It’s a stupid superficial point of view.

NOW, however, I will make the argument that YES, it has in fact been proven that thin DOES equal pretty. But thin does not equal if you’re prettier than a larger girl. After all, what happened to, “I fell in love with your PERSONALITY”? I’d much rather be someone’s friend because of how funny and nice they are, than not be their friend because they’ve got a huge fucking axe sticking out the side of their head. However, if you’ve got a huge fucking axe sticking out the side of your head, I encourage you to have it looked at, because as cool as it may look, it is not healthy.

See my point?

I’d also like to make a stand against the idea that dieting is for looks purposes also. Every dieting commercial that I’ve ever seen has said, “Lose weight and look great in days!” and it’s SO superficial! It’s never the truth, ya know?! It’s never what it SHOULD be! We can’t SAY what it SHOULD be, you know why? People wouldn’t make MONEY that way! So instead of saying, “Lose weight and FEEL great in days!” they lie right to your face and hit you at your most vain spot where you suddenly feel inadequate and like you can’t measure up.

Lying+People’s Fears/Insecurities-Truth=CASH.
That right there is the basic math formula for the economy at large when it comes to distributing products. A=B=C=A or something like that.

I guess what I’m saying is I wish girls could believe they look great without being told it over and over again, but they can’t because if they say they look great in front of other girls, other girls will call her a bitch for thinking she’s better looking. It truly is harder to be a girl than a guy, and this is all from a male’s brain, may I remind you. I wish women could believe they looked fantastic without thinking their vain in the process, I wish that people could be told that thin means you’re healthy and you should lose weight in order to live longer, not so you can bag the hottest date for the prom.

Ironically enough, no matter what deep, insightful thoughts I make here, I can’t shake the humorous fact that I’m telling people they should exercise, except I’m sitting in front a computer telling them. I’m a big ball of contradictory bullshit.
