I was once suggested by a therapist I had that I may have something called Aspergers Syndrome, which is a condition that makes people have extremely difficult time making friends, gives them a large vocabulary, and makes their interests HIGHLY obsessed with. It’s actually a form of Autism. I never actually got tested, but I was researching it the other night and I found something that was INSANELY hilarious. No, I’m not saying Autism is funny, I’m saying what I found out ABOUT Autism, well it’s CONNECTED to Autism, so it’s…I’ll just shut up. This isn’t going to get any better.
I clicked on a blue word (I believe it’s a HyperLink) that was on the page on Wikipedia that took me to another page all about the word I clicked on, and that word, was Neurotypical. Neurotypical is a term that was coined by people in groups who have Autism or some form of it, that want to talk about people WITHOUT Autism. So, normal people. Yes society, you heard correctly. Mentally disabled people have a slang, derogatory term…FOR NORMAL PEOPLE. How would your kid handle that sort of thing? I mean, it doesn’t even SOUND like an insult. What if your kid was picked on by an Autistic child? First off, that’s embarrassing for him enough!
“Mom, that disabled kid kick my ass!”
But now to be jabbed at by mentally disabled children with hurtful terms, that’s REALLY gotta sting! If you got called Neurotypical by an Autistic person, would that even really hurt though? I mean, it doesn’t have the ring to it that the N word does. Plus it’s too long! It takes too long to say, I’m all for insulting people but not when it takes up half my day!
“Yeah well you’re neuro-whatever I’m going to eat lunch.”
And do they use it around themselves when their in groups to discuss one of us? A group of Autistic people sitting around, poking fun at us “normal” folk?
“Dude, I was trying to get this parking spot the other day, and this neurotypicalist took it!”
“Son of a bitch!”
“I know, right?!”
I think it’s sad how we can just stick to terms like asshole, or bastard, you know, general insults that aren’t gender or racially specific. No, we have to invent NEW ones! Special ones for the people we ESPECIALLY hate! It’s getting to the point where people are so stupid they wouldn’t understand a good insult anyway, so I’ve just started to ignore them altogether.
